congratulations

At Teachers Life, one of our primary goals is to support our valued Members and their families. Our annual awards program is just one way we give back, creating lasting impact for our Members. To date, we’ve invested over $600,000 in scholarships and bursaries for the families of our Members.

As an insurer dedicated to the education sector, these awards are a cornerstone of our Fraternal Benefits Program (Flourish+). In 2024, we expanded eligibility, accepting applications from students at any stage of post-secondary education. In addition to children and grandchildren, Members’ nieces and nephews are now also eligible to apply for Teachers Life awards.

This year, we are proud to recognize 11 outstanding individuals with the Teachers Life Bursary, the J.F. Allen Scholarship, and the Hall & Hall Award. Recipients were selected through a random draw from all qualified applicants.

2024 Teachers Life award recipients

The Teachers Life Bursaries

This year’s six outstanding student recipients include: Lianna Adlam, Jonas Irwin, Maya Linowski, Paul Galati, Finn Slavinski Baxter, and Violet Davis-Daniel.

All recipients have demonstrated what we consider well-rounded excellence in both academic and extracurricular activities while maintaining a 70-80% grade average.

We are honoured to support the unique and inspiring educational paths of our award recipients.

Lianna is thankful to receive financial support for her first year of post-secondary schooling in the Medical Laboratory Technician program at St. Clair College in Windsor, ON. Jonas is excited to study animation at Seneca College and is grateful to his parents for all of their loving support.

Maya is working toward becoming a registered nurse and is inspired by her parents’ dedication and support. Paul is working toward a career in mechanical engineering and credits his father for showing him how to fix things and learn about building and creating.

Award recipient, Finn, will be studying geography and eventually, urban planning, as he has always had an interest in the design and history of cities. Finn hopes to one day design welcoming and well-structured communities.

Bursary recipient, Violet, plans on becoming a psychologist. Violet’s goal is to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others by helping them navigate their mental health challenges and achieve greater well-being. Violet aims to have a positive impact on individuals and communities by offering support, understanding, and evidence-based care.

The J.F. Allen Scholarship

The J.F. Allen Scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate academic excellence, extracurricular achievement and a deep connection to their schools and communities. The scholarship is for up to 4 years of post-secondary education. This year’s four J.F. Allen Scholarship recipients are: Umaya Krishnathas, Drew Boylan, Sophie Pederson, and Benjamin Shafransky.

Throughout their seven-year journey as an International Baccalaureate (IB) student, Umaya has been deeply committed to both academic excellence and comprehensive community service. Umaya has also consistently volunteered at the Mississauga Food Bank, a local medical clinic, and a pharmacy, gaining invaluable firsthand experience in healthcare settings.

Scholarship recipient, Drew, is a hard worker and is inspired by both academic and sports leaders. Drew is working toward a career in accounting and plays indoor and beach volleyball.

Being a student at the University of Toronto can be challenging. The J.F. Allen Scholarship will assist Sophie in pursuing her studies in humanities and help to take some financial burden away. Sophie is inspired by history and world culture.

Benjamin is a three-time Toronto Science Fair medalist, who loves science and biology. Benjamin’s father is always providing a wide range of opportunities for success and is his biggest supporter.

The Hall & Hall Education Award

We’ve supported those who work in the education community since 1939. The Hall & Hall Education Award is offered to one individual enrolled in a consecutive Faculty of Education program, or in year 3-6 of a concurrent Faculty of Education program.

The recipient of this award must exhibit the drive and determination that all good educators have. We are proud to announce Adam Lyne as this year’s Hall & Hall Education Award recipient.

After completing a Bachelor of Education program at Western University, Adam plans to become a high school math teacher. Adam is eager to combine his passion for mathematics with a desire to positively influence young people. Recognizing that math is often seen as a challenging subject, Adam aims to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment, helping all students reach their full potential.
