‘Tis the season to start thinking holiday! While most students are eagerly awaiting their winter breaks (and the teachers are too!) it is always fun to built up the anticipation with creative, challenging crafts that can bring the season of giving into the classroom. We’ve scoured the web to curate a list of 8 holiday crafts for kids using budget-friendly materials. Tweak these decor ‘recipes’ to make them easier or more challenging, depending on your crafters’ age and level.

 

  1. The Snowman Door – Likely the easiest project on our list is the Snowman Door by The Creative Stamper Spot. Why not get the whole school involved with a Snowman Door Showdown.

 

  1. Felt Garland – Choose festive colours, let the students pick their own colours, or try a rainbow theme. This easy Felt Garland tutorial by My Blessed Life can be hung above the board for a great class photo.

 

  1. Coffee Filter Snowflakes – Use coffee filters or doilies for a perfectly round snowflake every time. This DIY project by Discover 0 is simple, fun and the possibilities are endless.

 

  1. Candy Cane Card Holders – this festive decor trick from Industrious Justice isn’t limited to place cards at a holiday table. Use to hold up drawings, cards the students send to each other, or have them write their names, wish lists, or favourite line from a book.

 

  1. Milk Jug Snowman – Ask students to bring in milk jugs to decorate as wintery snowmen. Use this tutorial from Free Fun Christmas and add any fun ‘ingredients’ you can think of for imaginative personalization.

 

  1. Puzzle Piece Ornaments – Collect old puzzles to make snowflake, candy cane and wreath ornaments from That’s What Che Said. Hang from the classroom ceiling with fishing wire cut to different lengths.

 

  1. Christmas Gnome Ornament – Pinecones are a holiday craft staple. Try this DIY ornament from Woman’s Day for older kids or try painting the pinecone tips different colours or gluing mini coloured pompoms for younger crafters.

 

  1. Sock Snowmen – Watch the imagination in your classroom flourish with these Sock Snowmen by Then She Made. Set down fake snow on the windowsill and spread out the snowmen on top for a wintery display.
